Community Code of Conduct
Pinned AnsweredThe community is a space for members to ask questions and help each other with how to use specific aspects of Trade Me. Everyone is welcome to ask questions or share tips and tricks, and you’ll also find Trade Me staff engaging in the community from time to time.
The community is also a place to provide product feedback. If you have any specific feedback or ideas about any of our Trade Me products, check out the [how to write a good feedback post] and follow the best practice guide.
Please read our community rules below and remember one of our Trade Me values - don’t be a dick.

Don’ts
- Use inappropriate or offensive language, or hate speech
- Abuse, harass, or be disparaging toward people
- Post content unrelated to Trade Me
- Share any contact information, or breach anyone’s privacy
- Spam or troll the Community
RULES
Keep it relevant & Trade Me related
The Community is a place for advice, tips and technical help with the site from your peers, constructive product feedback, and information sharing about Trade Me services. Conversations outside of this will be removed. All information shared should be correct and up to date – we may remove or correct information that is not.
Keep it respectful
Be kind, helpful and respectful in the Community – remember we were all new to Trade Me once. Inappropriate or offensive language and content is not acceptable, and we don’t tolerate any abuse, harassment, personal attacks or disparaging comments. Do not impersonate Trade Me staff, or post about action taken by Trade Me. Anything we deem to be disrespectful may be removed.
Keep it constructive
Constructive feedback is welcome, disparaging commentary is not. If we feel a conversation is ‘bashing,’ not constructive or not providing specific feedback, we may remove it. To give us useful feedback, please read the [writing a feedback post] for best practice, and use the upvoting feature on feedback you agree with to keep the Community tidy.
Keep it troll and spam free
Posting on the Community to cause trouble, start a contentious topic, derail a discussion or incite an emotional response from others is not OK. Excessive over-posting or spamming is also unacceptable.
Keep it safe and legal
Don’t post anything that breaches any intellectual property rights or anyone’s privacy – including any information which identifies members of the public who have name suppression. Don’t share any contact details in the Community, including your own. Don’t post or link to any malicious software or to content that promotes or encourages illegal activities. Be careful you don't post defamatory statements about anyone.
Keep it fair
Don’t breach our site terms & conditions or use the Community to circumvent our policies. Don’t use the Community for self promotion, including your Trade Me listings or Store. Don’t use multiple accounts to manipulate the badge system, or upvote your own posts. If you have concerns about a user send us an email. If you have concerns about a listing, report this through Community Watch at the bottom of every listing.
Trade Me will review any Community content that it feels breaches this Code of Conduct, and reserves its rights to modify or remove any Community content at its sole discretion. Repeated breaches of the Community Code of Conduct may result in restrictions to your account.
